Effective September 1, 2025, Glander International Bunkering announces the promotion of Alvaro Sierra to Managing Director of the Valencia office. Alvaro’s appointment marks a significant step in the office’s continued evolution as a hub for marine fuel, customer-centric solutions, and sustainable growth across the Mediterranean and Central Europe. His leadership reflects both his personal career trajectory and the strategic importance of the Valencia office.
Alvaro joined the company in May 2019 as a Junior Bunker Trader, bringing with him a strong commercial mindset. Over the past six years, he grew through the ranks to become Sales Manager in January 2024, taking on increased responsibility and leading high-impact initiatives. Now as Managing Director, Alvaro will lead the Valencia office into its next phase of strategic development in one of Europe’s most dynamic marine energy markets.
Driving growth from Valencia
Established in August 2018, the Valencia office has become a strategic hub for marine fuel supply and innovation. Its proximity to the Strait of Gibraltar enables it to connect key shipping routes across the Mediterranean, Atlantic, Portugal, and North Africa, making it a natural launchpad for new fuel initiatives. The office has actively contributed to the company’s energy transition strategy, with a strong focus on biofuels, LNG, and customer advisory services. Alvaro has been part of Valencia’s recent accomplishments including several first of their kind operations:
- LNG & BioLNG: Successfully coordinated the first LNG bunkering at Kokkola port in Finland, and managed multiple BioLNG deliveries for Neste’s fleet in Antwerp and Hamina, under tight timelines and with full certification compliance.
- Advanced Biofuels: Delivered the first B24 FAME/FO blend to an asphalt tanker for the Rubis Group, in collaboration with the Dubai office.
- Second-Generation HVO Supply: Supplied HVO biofuels to cruise vessels in the Mediterranean, in partnership with Cepsa, achieving up to 90% CO₂ reduction.
Looking ahead
As Managing Director, Alvaro Sierra brings a clear vision: to position the Valencia office as a leading bunker partner in conventional and alternative fuels within the region.
