Leading marine fuel and lubricant trading firm, Glander International Bunkering has donated to the Seafarers International Relief Fund (SIRF) established by The Seafarers’ Charity. The fund was created to provide relief to seafarers and their families in India and other countries who have been affected by the pandemic.
Financial support to SIRF has helped secure 10 oxygenators and over 1000 food parcels each sufficient to feed a seafarer’s family of five for one month.
Additionally, the charity will send 5000 Covid-19 medical care kits across 10 Indian ports that can be used by the workers and their family members to give early warning signs of infection. Donations will also be invested in post-pandemic care, counselling and therapy.
Managing Director of the Mumbai office Ajay Menon said: “The increase in travel restrictions and the severe strains in India’s healthcare systems have created deeper challenges for crew members who are stuck at sea. The support from our organization and other entities will ensure SIRF can accelerate its efforts, guaranteeing the industry’s essential workers and their families can be supported and protected through these challenging times.”
